Bombardment Group
Memorial
Who are the 490th BG Memorial Group?
We are a group of volunteers dedicated to remembering the men of the 490th Bombardment Group, a heavy bomber squadron drafted to the UK in 1943 from America to help with the allied war efforts.
East Anglia in the United Kingdom played a vital role in the war, being the home to many strategic bomber commands, large aerodromes for heavy bomber aircraft, and top secret missions involving experimental aircraft and weapons. There was a huge American presence here in Suffolk, England during the war and our job as a memorial group is to make sure that fond memories of the men, women, and machinery who fought for us live on for years to come.
