Fancy a Walk? Try our Eye Airfield Trails
All our current trails are located in Eye and pass over the airfield. All routes are publicly accessible but may not be suitable for those who have trouble with mobility. We hope you enjoy yourself and hope you can join the local community afterwards at one of our the independent shops and cafe’s to be found in our quaint countryside town.
We’re in the process of updating our maps since the new development on Eye Airfield. In the meantime, please cross reference with the on-site public footpath signs to ensure you are staying on track. Stay tuned for more.
‘There and Back Again’
Short and Sweet.
The shortest of our walks, but still a lot to see. On this 1 mile walk taking around 1 hour you’ll notice lots of wild flowers growing on the now unused airfield paths before ending up at the 490th memorial where you can sit, relax and reflect.
‘The Memorial Trail‘
A Good All-Rounder.
An easy walk of around 3 miles and taking approximately 1 and a half hours, you will walk across part of the original perimeter track before finishing off at the 490th Bomb Group’s very own memorial site situated in Eye.
‘The Perimeter Trail‘
Our Longest and Most Scenic.
Our longest walk, 5 miles long and taking around 2 and a half hours, will take you around the perimeter of our airfield. There’s a lot to see and learn on the way as you take in the sheer scale of the site where airmen would be stationed.
